Manager of Accounting & Finance Location Chicago, IL (Bronzeville area) :

POSITION: Manager of Finance and Accounting

REPORTS TO: Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

SUPERVISES: Finance Department

LOCATION: Chicago, Illinois

POSITION FUNCTION: Directs the organization's financial, fiscal, and administrative support services, which are fundamental to both the conduct of the operations and the achievement of its operational and financial objectives. Manages and communicates all aspects of the organization's financial activities, including budgeting and forecasting, internal and external reporting, cash and investments. Supervise daily operation of the Finance Department to include Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivables, Cash Management, Contract Billing, General Ledger and the preparation of monthly financial statements. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Establishes the organization's financial objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Manages the preparation and communication of the organization's annual budget.
  • Directs the development, implementation, operation, maintenance, and control of essential business, information, and operations support systems.
  • Advises the CEO and Director of Operations on financial issues and analyzes budgets and forecasts.
  • Oversees and manages monthly billing of organization's service contracts, semi-monthly payroll, and reconciliations of all bank accounts.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for agency and individual cost centers by the 15th day of the month for the previous month's activity.
  • Prepare, obtain, review, and post all routine and adjustments of journal entries to general ledger.
  • Analyze/reconcile all balance sheet accounts quarterly and performs periodic audits.
  • Directs and reviews the organization's accounting practices ensuring their correctness, appropriateness, and conformance to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), Accounting Policy, Company Accounting Procedure Requirements, Company Control Objective and tax laws.
  • Monitors credit and collection applications. Approves terms above a predetermined dollar amount.
  • Assures protection for the assets of the company through internal control, internal auditing, and ensuring proper insurance coverage.
  • Provides various departments with related training and information to carry out their assigned responsibilities.
  • Assures that all other internal operations support the achievement of excellent, effective, efficient program services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Masters/MBA preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant status preferred
  • 3 - 5 yrs supervisory experience in the finance function of a non-profit organization required

Training and Skills Broad knowledge of cost accounting, general ledger, purchasing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, contract billing, and payroll.

Strong leadership ability, presentation skills, and ability to translate financial terms into understandable terms for managers and staff. General understanding of Accounting Systems, MS Word, Excel, Quick Books and other accounting related programs.

Can perform arithmetic calculations and computations and explain to all levels of staff. The employee may be required to work in or visit Centers locations in the city of Chicago and suburbs and must be able to transport himself/herself to various locations. EQUIPMENT USED: Employee will generally use the telephone, computer, calculator, copier, overhead projector, paper shredder, paper cutter, and filing systems.?
