Overview
Acting on their own initiative, the Winemaker is responsible for running and efficiently managing all cellar activities in cooperation with the management team at Nitz Wines.

This position is part of the small close-knit management team at Nitz Wines, and as such will work in concert with the vineyard team, the sales and marketing team, as well as the administrative team.

This position reports directly to Ownership.

Responsibilities
Cellar Production
In coordination with the vineyard and marketing team, develop and produce a portfolio of award-winning wines and ciders that meet market demand

Purchase and inventory all wine making supplies in a timely and cost effective manner

In coordination with the marketing team, purchase and inventory all packaging materials in a timely and cost effective manner

Maintain and repair of all cellar equipment in a timely and cost effective manner

Vineyard input
Perform regular vineyard walks to assist with cropload and canopy decisions. Wine potential and wine style are determined in the vineyard, so this position must work with the Vineyard Manager to intentionally grow the grapes for the desired portfolio of wines.

Sales & Marketing
Assist the Sales and Marketing team with developing marketing materials and campaigns

Assist the Sales and Marketing team by performing select tastings and tours as well as representing the company at key events

Management
Develop and adhere to working budgets

Hire, train, and manage all cellar staff as well as all external service providers to perform cellar operations

Maintain records and generate reports in the chosen winery management software to meet all internal and external needs.

Qualifications
Must have a passion for making exceptional wine and cider from fruit grown in a cool climate area

Winemaking knowledge and several years of relevant experience required

Must maintain a valid driver's license and be able to legally drive one’s own vehicle as needed

Compensation

Base salary commensurate with experience

Performance based compensation based on agreed-upon KPIs
