Summary

Under general supervision, provides Computerized Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) examinations for diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Responsibilities

Schedules patients for CT and MRI examinations and performs CT and MRI studies. Ability to transfer back and forth from CT and MRI throughout shift. Evaluates the nature of critical and emergency procedures and arranges patient priorities. Receives patients, explains method of examination, and prepares patient for imaging.

Performs and completes routine examinations. Confers with radiologists to establish protocols for nonstandard examinations. Maintains records of patients imaged, type of examinations performed and protocols used. Monitors examinations by checking computations, performances and results of the selected parameters to obtain effective diagnostic computer generated data and images.

Under guidance and approval of site Radiologist, administers contrast agents according to protocol. Reviews patient chart for lab and order information. Conducts screening interviews of patients to identify contraindications, such as ferrous objects, pregnancy, prosthetic heart valves, cardiac pacemakers, allergy to contrast, etc. Complies with all safety policies and regulations.

Ensures imaging equipment is operated within the manufacturer’s guidelines. Records computer data on appropriate archiving database. Assists with quality control and improvement. Monitors and implements technological improvements in CT and MRI scanning. Reports any equipment or application problems. Cleans and sanitizes equipment and workspace. Monitors stock of imaging supplies and ensures reorder.

Maintains technical competency through clinical education and participation in company sponsored training programs. Maintains current certifications.

Adheres to principles of ALARA. Uses available radiation protection devices and follows all policies relating to radiation safety for self, coworkers and patients.

Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of diagnostic technologist principals, practices and concepts.
  • Knowledge of anatomy of three-dimensional relationships.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic protocols, techniques, and requirements.
  • Knowledge of reference standards and regulatory requirements for CT and MRI safety.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures, sterile practices, infection control, basic life support, and other applicable practices.
  • Knowledge of Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Skill in operating CT and MRI technology and resolving problems with imaging equipment.
  • Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks and demands.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with patients and other employees.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.
  • Skill in organization and communication.


MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

A high school diploma or GED equivalent AND completion of a formal radiology technology instruction through a university or technical school. Progressively responsible professional work-related experience, education, or training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for education beyond high school/GED.

Minimum Experience Qualification

Non-supervisory - Two (2) years of CT/MRI operation experience.

MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION

  • Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Must be registered in Computed Tomography (CT) and/or registered in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) or Registry eligible and pass the CT and/or MRI registry within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Must possess a certification in basic life support (BLS).


Additional Requirements

Depending on the needs of the organization , some incumbents in this job class may be required to obtain additional certifications or training in one or more specialty areas.
