Since 1988, Carlson Engineering has successfully designed and implemented capital engineering projects for some of North America’s largest Food, Beverage and Dairy plants. The company was founded by John Carlson P.E., a 40 year veteran of Food and Dairy plant engineering and process automation. Starting in a garage with one client, Carlson Engineering has grown to occupy a 50,000 sq. ft. office and manufacturing facility in Fort Worth, Texas and serves many of the industry’s largest producers. With over 300 years combined engineering experience in the Dairy industry, our team of talented engineers has successfully solved many of the industry’s toughest challenges. Our corporate office and manufacturing facility is where we support our growing staff of engineers, along with housing both our process systems and our control panel fabrication shops. In addition, Carlson Engineering employs dedicated software developers to support its growing network of Carlson Plant Control System application users. While based in Fort Worth, our reach is nationwide. On any given day, you will find Carlson engineers deployed at sites across the country. We support our clients, wherever that location may be.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

As a Process Design Engineer with Carlson Engineering, you will work on a team of engineers to design, draft, and spec processing systems for food and beverage manufacturing plants. You will be responsible for designing process flows, creating PID drawings in AutoCAD, building 3D models or isometric drawings to use in the field, draft electrical panel drawings, and other design functions to support the project engineering team.

You will become involved in the day-to-day operational and technical aspects of projects, and typical project assignments will include work in the office with some travel to the client’s location as needed for support. You will be responsible for maintaining high customer satisfaction by handling and solving assigned technical issues and ensuring outstanding communication and follow-up with our clients. You will be empowered to make decisions that impact our client's day-to-day operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Read and analyze moderately complex technical procedures, process flow schematics, P&IDs, electrical, instrumentation, and pneumatic drawings.
  • Read, understand, and work within regulatory standards (FDA, PMO, USDA, OSHA, ect.)
  • Develop an understanding of the customer’s processes, control methods, and the requirements for successful project completion.
  • Meet with customers to understand their needs and requirements for new processes.
  • Work with a wide range of equipment suppliers to understand the specifications and design capabilities to meet the customers’ requirements.
  • Design and create PID drawings in AutoCAD for concept design, for construction, and as built
  • Create 3D layout models and isometric drawings to be used by engineers and fabricators in the field.
  • Work with Automation Engineers to create electrical drawings for I/O panels, HMIs, ect.
  • Communicate thoughts, ideas, and other written information, which may be technical in nature, in a logical, coherent, and persuasive manner.
  • Be a critical team player during the start-up and commissioning of new process equipment within a plant floor environment. Candidate must excel in high pressure environments with strict performance deadlines.
  • Work independently with little supervision, but with high personal and team accountability.

QUALIFICATIONS 

BS in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering, or 10 plus years of experience.

Prior experience with the following is required:

  • Dairy process system design
  • Food and Beverage Manufacturing design or Operational experience
  • AutoCAD and 3D modeling software

Willing to travel an average of 20% of the time, with brief periods exceeding 50%.

Speak, read and write fluent English.

Be a United States citizen or have documented proof of eligibility to work in the United States and have a current driver’s license.
